The country's principal drama stage

The Teatrul Național Mihai Eminescu is Moldova's leading drama stage and one of the buildings that define Bulevardul Ștefan cel Mare. Its classification explicitly places it among the city's landmarks, alongside its status as a performing arts venue.

It carries the name of Mihai Eminescu, which places the institution at the heart of Romanian cultural identity in Bessarabia. The repertoire is drama, performed in Romanian.

79 Bulevardul Ștefan cel Mare și Sfânt, on the artery around which the whole of the capital's centre is organised. Piața Marii Adunări Naționale is a few hundred metres away, and all the central hotels are within walking distance.

The timetable — a real advantage

Unlike most theatres in Chișinău, which run purely to the playbill, here there are stated hours: 09:00–19:00, every day of the week, Saturday and Sunday included.

That means you can drop in for tickets or information at any point during the day, without working around performance times. For a visitor with 48 hours in the city, that is a significant simplification.

Accessibility

The entrance is wheelchair-accessible and there is adapted seating in the auditorium — two things that matter more than they might seem. There is, however, no accessible parking for disabled visitors, and parking on the boulevard is difficult at peak times and in the evening.

The auditorium is marked as suitable for children, relevant for the family productions in the repertoire.

What to combine it with

The position is ideal for a full programme on foot. Morning and afternoon can be spent on the central route — the square, the surrounding parks, the boulevard — leaving the evening for the performance.
