A guide to the Republic of Moldova written with the care of someone who actually makes the journey — not with the enthusiasm of a brochure.
Why this site exists
The Republic of Moldova has the largest wine cellars in the world, monasteries cut into the rock above the Dniester, and villages where bread is still baked in a clay oven. It also has a problem: the information about it is scattered. Opening hours on an institutional site that has not been updated in three years, a wrong distance copied from blog to blog, a festival that moved its dates and nobody corrected it.
We started MyMoldova.online so that there would be one place where the information is gathered, checked and written from end to end by people who actually went looking for the source. The site is at once an encyclopaedia — regions, history, notable people, food — and a practical tool for someone genuinely planning a visit.
Who we write for
First of all, Romanians who discover that a country they have never seen lies two hours from Iași. Then Moldovans in the diaspora who want to stay connected to home, and anyone — from anywhere — looking for serious information about a destination that mass tourism has not yet found.
How we work
Four rules we have set ourselves, and which show on every page.
We check before we publish
Every practical detail — distances, opening hours, entry fees, border crossing points — is looked up in official sources or on the ground. When one source contradicts another, we say so in the text rather than quietly picking one of them.
We say what we don’t know
If a fee is not published officially, or a festival date shifts from year to year, we write exactly that. We would rather give an honest “check before you set off” than a figure that looks certain and isn’t.
We write for the journey as it really is
We note the 200-metre descent on the path down to Țipova, the fact that Soroca fortress is closed on Mondays, or that getting from Cricova to Mileștii Mici means crossing the whole of Chișinău. Details like these ruin a day out when they are missing.
No brochure prose
We don’t write “oasis of calm” or “unforgettable experience”. One true detail says more than ten adjectives, and readers can work out for themselves whether a place is worth the trip.
How we are funded — and why that matters to you
The site is free and will stay that way. We support it from three sources: commission from booking partners (if you book your accommodation through one of our links, we receive a percentage, at no extra cost to you), automatically served advertising, and paid listings for local businesses.
Our rule: money does not buy a recommendation. A winery does not become recommended because it pays, and a poor hotel does not become good because it carries an affiliate link. When a listing is promoted, you can see that it is promoted. The full details are in our terms and conditions.
