A theatre for the youngest, with a name that says it all

Guguță is the boy in the fur hat from Moldovan children's literature, and the fact that the municipal puppet theatre bears his name is no marketing coincidence. It is a statement of target audience and of local tradition.

The theatre operates in the east of the city, at 1 Strada Maria Drăgan, in the Ciocana district. It is not a stage on the tourist circuit — it is where generations of Chișinău children saw their first performance.

Who it works for

Families with children, obviously. Puppet theatre has the advantage of working for visitors who do not speak the language too — the visual language of the genre crosses the language barrier better than drama does.

If you have small children and 48 hours in the capital, a performance here is a genuine alternative to the amusement parks, especially in bad weather.

Accessibility

The venue is listed as suitable for children and has a wheelchair-accessible entrance. There is also parking adapted for disabled visitors — which is not the case at many theatres in the city centre, where parking spaces are entirely absent.

If you are coming by car and have a pushchair, this is one of the most convenient theatres in Chișinău.

Opening times and getting there

There are no fixed visiting hours: the hall opens according to the scheduled performance. The season's programme is published on the theatre's website, and children's performances are usually matinees, at weekends.

From Piața Marii Adunări Naționale the distance is roughly four kilometres eastwards — 15–20 minutes by car. Ciocana is a large residential district, well connected to public transport.
