Parcul Rîșcani

What it is

Parcul Rîșcani serves one of Chișinău's most densely populated districts. It has none of the ambition of the large parks in the west of the city, but its role is clear: it is where the neighbourhood goes for a walk.

It is on Braniștii Street, about three kilometres north-east of the centre. Its classification places it among the capital's tourist attractions, which says something about its local standing, even if it does not feature on the standard visitor routes.

What to do there

Paths, mature trees, benches, open ground. The layout is that of a neighbourhood urban park, and the use matches: walking, a morning run, children playing, socialising in the evening.

The area is listed as suitable for children, and the entrance has wheelchair access. There are no set hours — the park is open at all times, every day.

When to go

There is no "correct" time to visit, but there is an optimal one: late afternoon, when the park fills with residents from the surrounding blocks. That is when you see why it exists.

Spring and autumn offer the most pleasant conditions. In summer, the shade of the mature trees matters, especially at midday. In winter, check the state of the paths after snow.

Getting there

Braniștii Street, in the Râșcani district. About 15 minutes by car from the centre. The district is well served by public transport, but if you don't know the trolleybus network, a taxi is simpler.

What to combine it with in the same day

This is the key point: Parcul Rîșcani works best as part of a north-eastern circuit rather than as a destination in its own right. The Pădurea-Parc „Râșcani”, with a lake, beach and fairground rides, is a few kilometres away and offers far more reason to stop. Parcul Afgan is in the same direction, and the Technology Museum Park closes the route to the north.
