One of the most accomplished sportswomen of contemporary Moldova. She won the silver medal and the title of Olympic runner-up at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, in wrestling.

Anastasia Nichita (b. 19 February 1999) is one of the most decorated sportswomen in the history of the Republic of Moldova, a women's freestyle wrestler. She stood out while still a teenager, becoming European champion at cadet level in 2015, and since then she has built an impressive record at European, world and Olympic level.

Career

In 2020, Anastasia Nichita became the first wrestler from Moldova to win the title of European champion at senior level. She subsequently confirmed this, winning the gold medal several times at the European Championships in the 59 kg event. In 2021 she also prevailed at the U23 European Championship in Skopje, and world recognition came in 2022, when she became world champion in the 59 kg category, in Belgrade. At the 2023 edition of the World Championships, also in Belgrade, she obtained the silver medal in the 57 kg category.

Olympic achievement

The greatest achievement of her career came at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, where she won the silver medal in the women's 57 kg event. The result confirmed her as one of the most accomplished sportswomen the Republic of Moldova has ever had and turned her into a role model for the new generation.

Recognized in 2023 as the best sportswoman of the year by the relevant institutions in Moldova, Anastasia Nichita continues to represent the country at the highest international competitions, inspiring young athletes through her discipline and her consistent results.

Anastasia Nichita was formed within the Moldovan school of wrestling, one of the country's best-performing sporting branches. Her offensive style and her ability to score quickly have made her a feared opponent on the mat. Throughout her career she has risen steadily in the world rankings of the International Wrestling Federation (United World Wrestling), being present in the finals of the major competitions. Through the 2022 world title and the 2024 Olympic silver medal, she has become one of the most decorated sportswomen in the history of the Republic of Moldova and a role model for the new generation of athletes.
